The Power of Pivoting: Celebrating Two Years of Growth.
When you’re called to pivot, it’s not because the old way wasn’t working—it’s because there’s something more on the other side of that leap of faith.
Two years ago, I made a decision that would change the course of my business and my life. At the time, JoiB Consulting was focused on marriage education, drawing heavily from my background and master’s degree in marriage and family therapy. The work was fulfilling, but deep inside, I felt called to do more, to stretch beyond what was familiar. In a step of obedience and audacious faith, I pivoted.
JoiB Consulting would no longer focus on marriage education, as we pivoted that responsibility to our nonprofit, Beyond The Aisle, which now handles all marriage-related services. This shift allowed us to evolve into a consulting firm dedicated to supporting the operational needs of businesses.
What started with a leap into the unknown—providing administrative support—has now expanded into a multifaceted company. It’s been a journey of discovery, growth, and learning, and along the way, God’s grace has been evident every step of the way. I want to share some of the lessons I’ve learned, not just as an entrepreneur, but as a person who continues to trust the process, leaning into faith, and building something bigger than I ever imagined.
Lessons Learned in Business and Life
Start with God’s Word and Guidance
When I look back over these two years, one constant has been the power of God’s Word to guide, ground, and sustain me. I’ve built this business on scripture, leaning on verses that speak to my spirit when things get tough and also when they go well. Verses like Philippians 4:13—“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”—have been my lifeline on days when I wasn’t sure how everything would come together.
Another key scripture that keeps me motivated is Colossians 3:23-24—“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” This verse reminds me that excellence is non-negotiable, not because of human praise, but because my work is an offering to God. And Proverbs 22:1, which says, “A good name is better than riches,” speaks to the importance of integrity, how we carry ourselves in business, and the lasting legacy of a good reputation.
One of the biggest revelations for me was how God revealed my gifts—the gift of Administration and Helps—and how to use them for His glory. Knowing your gifting changes everything. It gives clarity to what you’re meant to do and allows you to move with confidence. For me, stepping fully into these gifts has allowed me to build a business that supports others in meaningful, strategic ways.
The Pivot: Bold Faith and New Beginnings
Pivoting JoiB Consulting wasn’t just a change in services; it was a shift in mindset. Moving from a focus on marriage coaching to business support required a different kind of faith—what I call audacious faith. It wasn’t easy to let go of what felt comfortable and step into something new. I remember thinking, “Will anyone even need this service?” But with every step forward, I saw doors open, and clients began to seek me out, not for what I used to offer, but for what JoiB Consulting could provide now.
Looking back, I realize that it was never just about me. God had a bigger plan for this business than I initially envisioned. I learned that sometimes, when you’re called to pivot, it’s not because the old way wasn’t working—it’s because there’s something more on the other side of that leap of faith.
Tapping Into Your Existing Strengths
Before JoiB Consulting grew into the company it is today, I had to take a good look at my strengths. I realized that the same skills I used to organize marriage education workshops were transferable to helping business owners manage their operations. The gift of administration I had been using to help couples build strong relationships was the same gift I could use to help entrepreneurs build strong businesses. Understanding this was a game-changer. It reminded me that God equips us with strengths that can be applied in multiple ways. Sometimes, we just have to tap into what’s already there.
The Art of Juggling, Not Balancing
One of the most frequent questions I get is, “How do you manage to do it all?” The truth is, I’ve learned that balancing is not the goal. For people like me who wear multiple hats—entrepreneur, wife, mother, and community member—it’s more about juggling than balancing. And the difference is this: when you juggle, you’re aware that not all things will get the same attention at the same time, but everything gets its moment in your hand.
Some days, my focus is on nurturing my family; other days, it's on serving clients or managing the backend of the business. I’ve learned to prioritize what’s most urgent in the moment, and give myself grace when things aren’t perfectly “balanced.” It’s okay if some things don’t get done immediately; what matters is staying present and giving your all to what’s in front of you right now.
Etch It on Paper, Not on Stone: Embracing Flexibility
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as an entrepreneur is the importance of flexibility. When I started this business, I had certain ideas about how things would go. Some of those ideas worked wonderfully, while others... not so much. What’s important is not to etch your plans in stone but to write them on paper, knowing that they can be erased, rewritten, or refined.
I’ve embraced experimentation in business. I’m not afraid to try new things—whether it’s a new service, process, or marketing strategy. Some of those things worked well, and we’ve continued to build on them. Others? We learned from them, made adjustments, and moved forward. The key is to keep moving, and to view every experience as an opportunity to grow.
Relationship is Currency
If there’s one thing that has truly surprised me, it’s how much relationships matter in business. In these two years, I haven’t had to pitch anyone for business. Every client I’ve worked with came through word of mouth. This speaks to the power of human connection and how people value the experience of working with you, often more than the product or service itself.
When clients refer others to JoiB Consulting, they aren’t just talking about the services we provide—they’re highlighting the relationship, the trust, and the value they felt from our interactions. Relationships are the currency that keep your business growing, and I’m grateful for every one of them.
